Biography

Josie Simmons

I am a graduate of the 'Guildhall School of Music and Drama' and finished with an overall first in 2005. Now I spend my time performing in various groups, teaching the next generation of musicians and composing and arranging music.

On the saxophone I am experienced in many genres of music from classical to soul and funk. In terms of classical music I have played with various orchestras but currently enjoy performing with my saxophone quartet 'Marici Saxes' at recitals, concerts and functions.

Over the last fifteen years I have performed in many different ensembles which include the Guildford Philharmonic, Cellorhythmics, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Planningtorock, Darvra's Wave, London Jazz Orchestra, Eden Billy Simpson, Sarum Orchestra, Joan As Police Woman and the Brandenburg Sinfonia at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Vortex Jazz Club, Queen Elizabeth Hall, QEH Foyer, St Martin In The Fields, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, BBC Television Centre and National Portrait Gallery.

As well as performing regularly I also enjoy teaching and work for St Albans School, Enfield Music Service and as a deputy at The Royal College of Music Junior Department.
